Keynote Address and Exhibition in Nanjing

On May 26th, Gijs Bakker delivered a keynote speech in Nanjing (China) as part Forum on the Dynamic Inheritance of the Intangible Cultural Heritage organised by the World Historical & Cultural Cities Expo in Nanjing (China). By bringing together innovation resources, encouraging social participation through cross-sector collaboration, the forum intends to engender a new pattern of living heritage development. 

Gijs Bakker also attended the opening of TraditioNow, Revival of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage. An exhibition highlighting research, recreation and production of heritage elements, that displays some 100 masterpieces by 50 internationally established inheritors, designers, artists and scientists who have made cross-cultural and crossover efforts in the heritage revival. The exhibition features traditional Chinese handicrafts such as Yunjin brocade, mortise and tenon joint, gold foil, bamboo weaving and ceramics, while taking into consideration similar foreign handicrafts and their modernized versions. The exhibition further includes the Gold Brocade brooch by Gijs Bakker, that was conceived as part of the Revival of Chinese Traditional Handicrafts - Masters Designers in Residence Program 2017
