Acoustic ceiling

Acoustic ceiling

The commission came from the 'one-per-cent ruling' (see 057). Invited to design an artwork that would simultaneously improve the acoustics of the room, Bakker interpreted the task literally. In the design a foam mattress was mounted  against the ceiling, with 80 tube lights pressed into it, dispersed haphazardly from the entrance across the ceiling like spillikens posts dropped  onto a table. It was an intricate project technically in that it had to satisfy all sorts of fire precautions.
